The Day After My Birthday is Not My Birthday!

Beer #144 Westoek / Brouwerij Deca Services, Woesten-Vleteren, Belgium

And so we begin the next year.  Let's hope it's a good one.  Heard from many friends yesterday, so I'm definitely starting off the year feeling the love.

We begin with (wow, surprise) a beer from Belgium, the Westoek from Brouwerij Deca.  In the glass it shows off an apricot hue, with a persistent fluffy white head.  The aroma gives off a blend of yeast, with sour notes.  The flavor is a nice balance of yeast, citrus hops, and banana.  Very easy drinking - light and dry.  There's a sour finish, which is quite enjoyable.  Maybe not the greatest or most complex tripel ever, but definitely a solid beer.

Hard to find info on this brewery due to the lack of being able to translate their website.  It does appear this beer is a collaboration between Deca and De Struisse, so there you go.

Thing to Think About Today:
One of the more interesting shows we've come across in the past few years has been Flight of the Conchords.  It's a quasi-scripted comedy show based on the life experience and music of Bret and Jermaine, a duo from New Zealand.  What's interesting is that their songs are both hysterical and quite catchy, yet the show itself is one of the most awkward programs ever.  Strange dialogue, random encounters, and odd behavior.  Marci hates nothing more than things that make her uncomfortable, and Flight of the Conchords did that in spades.  However, we still listen to their music because it's awesome, so check it out.  Why is this the thing you're thinking about today?  Their amazing look at what happens when you've got hurt feelings, including a verse where everyone forgot Jermaine's birthday.  I just had a great birthday with lots of love from my friends & family, so I have sympathy for those who don't have great birthdays.  Enough words, more video:
