Beer, Barbarino, and Bros. It's Vermont Day!

Beer# 26 Centennial Red/ Long Trail Brewing Company, Bridgewater Corners, VT
Working on making some blog enhancements tonight.  Adding a separate tab to see the breweries (organized by country/state), creating a Facebook page for people to follow along through that channel.  Still in the works, but you'll see some changes very soon.  For the 6 people who read this blog, if you have suggestions on how to better organize or display our content, feel free to air your grievances.

Wouldn't be a post unless we talked about some beer, and tonight we're both trying the same option.  Part of the Long Trail Brewmaster Series of limited release/experimental beers, the Centennial Red pours a rich chestnut color with reddish hues.  Sort of unremarkable on the nose (my quote: "I can't smell anything"), it brings much, much more flavor with the first sip.  Good taste of hops, with a tart sweetness that helps hide the 8% ABV.   Roasted, malty notes along the way.  This beer was brewed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the oldest hiking trail in North America.  If you live somewhere warm, go out and hike!  If not, just drink beer!

Special Vermont shout out to my main man from Vermont, President Calvin Coolidge.  Yep.  We're bros.

Thing to Think About Today:
I'll share two things today.  One, is that the state capital, Montpelier, is the only state capital NOT to have a McDonald's.  BOOM.  Two, is the thing for you to really think about today: the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon.  Held in Burlington over Memorial Day weekend, this race has a big event feel while capping registration at very manageable size.  Awesome race that winds through the vibrant Church Street area and spends plenty of time on the banks of Lake Champlain.  Taiko drummers along the course put down a killer beat, which is definitely needed to get you fired up for the hilly "Assault on Battery."

And think about this while dreaming of running: Marci and I were part of WINNING marathon relay team (the appropriately named Sweathogs) in this race a few years back.  Oh yes.  Well, I suppose we won, if by winning you mean, "didn't come in last" and "absolutely, positively closed down the beer tent."  That's winning in my book, folks.

Sweathogs! (not pictured, Mr. Kotter)
