Weekend Update

Beer #34  Eisbock / Kulmbacher Braueri, Kulmbach, Germany
And so we come to the end of the week.  Feels good to only work a five day week after the past month of craziness!  Some very cool things planned for the weekend - an art exhibit opening, some down time, a trip to a beer superstore, and buck-a-shuck oysters with some friends.  Hopefully the weather cooperates so I can get a run in somewhere.  Ahhh... the weekend.  It's good to see you again, old friend.

You know what goes great with the weekend?  Beer.  Beer goes great with everything, but especially pairs well with the weekend.  Today's offering comes from Kulmbacher, and represents my first foray into German beers so far. The dark color and sweet aroma give hints that this beer packs a punch, and at 9.2%  ABV it doesn't disappoint. There's a rich malt taste along with lighter floral notes; maybe a bit of honey along the way.  The legend of this beer is that two barrels of bock were accidentally left outside through the winter of 1900, and when they were found next spring the bock beer was even better with the cold aging.  I don't recommend leaving this one outside; tastes just fine drinking it when you get your hands on it.

Things to Think About Today:
I don't stay up late enough in the evenings to catch most of the comedy shows, but I like to catch the highlights - particularly Jimmy Fallon.  His house band is The Roots, and I'm a huge Roots fan, so the musical sketches usually catch my eye.  So, a tip of the hat to Mr. Fallon and his unique spin on the thing everyone is thinking/talking about this week: Tim Tebow.  Somehow, David Bowie plays a role.  Just watch:

(Hopefully you read this before NBC yanks the content.  If so, just search NBC's site for 'Tebowie'.)
